Point Grey Residence
Stately Point Grey home with a mixture of formal and informal plantings. Vancouver.
This stunning family home needed an equally stunning garden. Several large Japanese Maples, yew and cedar hedges, as well as hard landscaping give structure and define the different areas of the garden, while herbaceous perennials and smaller shrubs tumble over the low boxwood hedges in a profusion of textures and colour all year round. The palette in the front garden is elegantly muted, transforming through several colour changes as the seasons progress. From the cool greens of corsican hellebores and blues of Scilla sibirica in early spring, through to the spicier orange and maroon feast of colour in the hotter Summer months, there's always something new coming up, catching the notice of passers-by. Large planters complete the feast for the eye, with a mixture of permanent and seasonal plantings.
Outside the kitchen, a sunny patio surrounded with mixed herb and perennial planting, roses, and mature trees provide a secluded back garden for entertaining, or simply enjoying a nice glass of wine in the evenings. A shady hill bed spills over with the large foliage of Hosta sieboldiana, Hydrangeas, and Hellebores, interspersed with Astilbes and a variety of woodland plants, capitalising on the shelter and shade provided by mature rhododendrons.
No pesticides or other chemicals are used in this garden and the plants selected attract birds of all sizes, with songbirds making their homes in nesting boxes each year.
