Beach House

A stunning family home set in an idyllic beach-front location. Vancouver.

The client wanted an easy- breezy Beach House garden with colour and movement and all-year interest.

The wave of grasses seperates the house from the often busy beach activity, creating soft structure and privacy without blocking the sea and mountain views. Blue and silver tones run through the wildflowers weaving through the grasses, creating movement and texture in the light sea breeze. Closer to the house, the design becomes more colourful, a secret riot of purples and oranges, hidden from the road and discovered only upon entering through the gate. Trees, evergreen and flowering shrubs give structure and interest all year round.  In the back garden, an old Walnut tree presides over mixed plantings surrounding a generous deck and pool, perfect for entertaining both the family and capable of hosting great parties. This really is a fun place for a Summer party!

The design incorporates both structural and soft plantings with plenty of interest in every month of the year. Plants have been carefully selected with attention both to their exposed beach-front location as well as shape and colour. No pesticides or other chemicals are used in this garden and the plants selected attract bees and hummingbirds, with several songbirds making their homes in nesting boxes each year.
